Applications
The coasts, fjords and mountains of Norway have extremely rough weather conditions with wind, snow, ice, sun and great varieties in temperature. Still, most Norwegians choose wood as their number one building material. Through the patented kebonizing process we transform the structure of the cell walls of sustainably managed woods such as maple and pines, and increase their hardness and durability extensively. As impregnation we use a reactive organic monomer produced from biological waste materials. The result is Kebony wood; A natural choice in projects only previously thought achievable with tropical hardwoods.

Kebony Cladding is practically maintenance free, with great durability. It is available in a large number of standard profiles and dimensions. Please contact Kebony with your inquiries.
DurabilityKebony Cladding has an outstanding durability. Kebony’s durability against rot decay conforms to Durability Class 1-2, which is the most durable category of the European norm EN 350. This Durability Class ensures that Kebony has a long life span. Because of its hardness Kebony will also be more robust against wear than most other wood types.
SustainabilityKebony Cladding is environmentally friendly using sustainable and harvested wood in the production. All our suppliers hold certificates guaranteeing the origin of their timber. Kebony Cladding is certified FSC (The Forestry Stewardship Council).
InstallationKebony Cladding should always be mounted using acid-proof or stainless fasteners. Nail guns should have a rubber”foot” towards the board. Kebony Cladding should be mounted with a slit of about 6 mm. Kebony is dried, so some swelling could occur.
Optional Surface treatmentPaint or stain is not needed for protection, only use it if you want to change the aesthetics, and color the wood. Without treatment, Kebony Cladding will develop an exclusive silvery grey patina. Kebony Cladding will keep its original brown color if treated with a suitable stain. With staining or oiling, a longer curing time than specified by the paint manufacturer should be expected. Cutting edges of Kebony Pine should be treated with a suitable primer, but this is not necessary on cladding of Kebony SYP and Kebony Maple .
